Understanding the State of Presence
Living in a state of presence means recognizing that life doesn't happen in the past or the future, but always in the now. Yet, most of us waste energy trying to redo what's already happened or control what doesn't yet exist. The result is disconnection: anxiety, frustration, guilt, and a constant feeling of emptiness.
According to Eckhart Tolle , the master who inspires my journey, "the present moment is all you have." When we root ourselves in this moment, we discover a peace that is independent of external circumstances. The now becomes a portal to awareness, clarity, and true freedom.
Writer Jacob Petry , whom I have the honor of being mentored by, also illuminates this path. He reminds us that the power to transform our lives lies not in speculating about the future or reliving the past, but in consciously choosing what we do today, in the only real time that exists: the present.
👉 Why does living in presence transform?
- Because the past cannot be changed — it can only be accepted and reinterpreted.
- Because the future is just a projection — and when we try to control it, we generate anxiety.
- Because now is the only place where we have the power to act, feel and decide.
Being present is a daily exercise: breathing consciously, observing one's thoughts, and embracing emotions without identifying with them. It's simple, yet profoundly transformative.
Presence doesn't erase challenges, but it gives us the clarity we need to navigate them. It doesn't eliminate pain, but it teaches us that we are greater than it. And, above all, it reminds us that life isn't a distant promise—it's what pulses, here and now.
